Anaïs Mitchell records LP of folk ballads, sets live date
By CMU Editorial | Published on Friday 9 November 2012
Singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, whose beautiful solo LP ‘Young Man In America’ came out at the beginning of the year, is set to release a studio collection of traditional Scottish and English folk ballads next February. All are borrowed from ‘Child Ballads’, an anthology first published by US folklorist Francis James Child in 1882.
Mitchell and instrumentalist Jefferson Hamer will perform their arrangements of Child’s finds – as apparently “embrace an American sensibility as well as a deep respect for the heritage of the tradition” – at London’s Cecil Sharp House on 5 Mar 2013.
