Apple’s Senior Vice President Of Internet Software And Services, Eddy Cue, has been discussing the recent launch of iTunes Radio and how he sees it fitting into the future of both the iTunes software and streaming music in general.

Asked by Entertainment Weekly’s The Music Mix about which services Cue saw iTunes Radio competing with directly, he said: “First of all, competition on anything is good, because it makes everybody better. Our goal is to be the best. We thought we could bring something that customers would love more than any other service out there and that’s what we want to do, and certainly I think competition will make things better for everybody so we can get better and better at it”.

That doesn’t really answer the question, but it’s almost interesting. Though the jury is still out on whether or not Apple’s new service is anywhere close to being ‘the best’.

Next Cue discussed moving pre-release streams of albums from the iTunes Store to iTunes Radio – noting that the new Justin Timberlake album, part two of ‘The 20/20 Experience’, is the first album to do this.

He explained: “It’s a huge improvement to do it on iTunes Radio because you don’t go to a store a lot. Hopefully lots of people will be listening to iTunes Radio a lot; from a discovery perspective it’s significantly better. I think when you go to a store and you go to the Justin Timberlake page and stream it from there, that’s great but that means you went to the store. iTunes Radio lets you discover it without you having to think about it”.
