So, back towards the end of the last decade, Copenhagen-based producer Magnus Wanscher released a few house tracks that were fairly well received.

But Wanscher wasn’t as happy with them as he might have been, and so he stopped and focussed his attention on a new sound. Plucking out one of his middle names for the new project’s moniker, Albert, he debuted those dark garage-influenced productions on an eponymous EP released via London label Studio Rockers in early 2011.

Next month he returns again with by far his strongest work to date, new single ‘Lucky’. Teaming up with Anna Lena (the Norwegian frontwoman of London-based band Anna Lena & The Orchids) on vocals, his sound again takes a new turn. It’s slow and warm, despite Lena’s downbeat lyrics documenting the end of an affair. Wrapped in layers of synths and pulses of percussion, it stretches out with just its fingertips still touching those garage influences.
