Approved: Benjamin Damage
By Paul Vig | Published on Wednesday 3 April 2013
Benjamin Damage, aka Welsh producer Ben O’Shea, presented his first album last year on 50 Weapons, a co-production with his fellow countryman Doc Daneeka. Having only begun crafting music in 2010, and after a flurry of highly regarded single releases, he now steps up with his debut solo album, ‘Heliosphere’, after a relocation to Berlin.
Leaning heavily on early 90s techno, some of Damage’s offerings could be pigeonholed alongside Dave Angel, Luke Slater and the like, but certainly with a slightly modern twist. ‘Heliosphere’ is a mixture of sonic soundscapes, and not just an LP with ten club thumpers. From abstract techno to UK bass, there are many styles on offer, and Damage gives us a truly diverse artist album on this going places Berlin label.
