Ex Cops

One of only two acts so far signed to the Other Music Recording Co, NYC record store Other Music’s brand new Fat Possum Records imprint, Brooklyn ‘devotional tropical goth’ group Ex Cops are, as yet, still to release an album. Things in that department look set to alter, though, since the band have been working with producer/engineer John Siket (Blonde Redhead, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth) on a debut LP that’s due in late spring.

Meanwhile Ex Cops’ new seven-inch single – also Other Music Rec’s inaugural release – is ‘You Are A Lion, I Am A Lamb’ backed by b-side ‘The Millionaire’. A smothered pass at guitar-spangled psych-pop sonnetry, the latter is blessedly quiet and considered given its lo-fi trim and ever so slightly ear-piercing vocal.

Similar things can be said of ‘Chinese Chairs’, as features on the Ex Cops Bandcamp, a needling go-go ditty whose charm dwells chiefly in its candied refrain and Dum Dums-ish inter-riffs.
