Approved: FAMY
By Aly Barchi | Published on Monday 7 November 2011
With a collective blood heritage made up of three parts English, one part Italian, France-based quartet FAMY (formerly known as Family) are now in readiness to release a debut single in the form of ‘Mother Benita/Dogg Dogg’ via Fifi Records on 5 Dec. You can listen to ‘Dogg Dogg’ below.
Yes, they’ve toured with Wu Lyf. And yes, Wu Lyf’s Evans Kati features in some undisclosed role (singing towards the end, I think) on this track. And yes, there are parallels between the two outfits: the funereal organs, the sonorous choral swells, the reverb. But where the parallels end and FAMY really begin, we get a kind of easy palatability in ‘Dogg Dogg’ that Wu Lyf’s debut ‘Go Tell Fire To The Mountain’ deliberately doesn’t touch on.
So, FAMY are a band with similar affiliations but quite different concerns to WL. If you like, they’re a Wu Lyf for all those who never really liked Wu Lyf. They are Wu Lyf’s nicer, gentler cousins. And I like them.
