Halls

Halls, aka London-based musician and producer Sam Howard, has been high on our watch list ever since we sat mesmerised, repeatedly replaying the stunning video for his track ‘I Am Not Who You Want’ last year. Taken from his ‘Fragile’ EP, which was released by The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing in January, he has spent the rest of the year completing the follow-up, his debut album, ‘Ark’.

Due for release via No Pain In Pop on 15 Oct, the first taste of the album comes in the form of ‘White Chalk’. Opening with slow-punched piano chords and Howard’s tenor voice, the track is then hit with heartbeat-like percussion and a swelling choir. It’s good. Very good. And if he keeps this sort of tone up across the whole album, it’s going to be one of those records that grabs at your chest and makes you feel like you can’t breathe.
