Hidden Orchestra

The Edinburgh-based Hidden Orchestra release this single ahead of their forthcoming second album ‘Archipelago’, which is due next month.

Drummers Tim Lane and Jamie Graham form the ‘frontmen’ of this instrumental outfit, alongside Poppy Ackroyd on violin and piano and the band’s composer and producer, Joe Acheson, on bass and samples. Since their 2010 debut ‘Night Walks’ they have toured through over 25 countries, and have found fans in bass and hip hop heads as well as jazz and classical lovers.

‘Vorka’ is inspired by Acheson’s work on a radio adaptation of a 1970s Japanese sci-fi novel, and features a haunting rise and fall of eerie instrumentation – the musical saw, to be precise, played by guest cellist Su-a Lee. Propelled by a some headnodding beats and a touch of bass, it’s tastefully done, and quite refreshing. Check it here:

Hidden Orchestra set out on tour in support of ‘Archipelago’ in a couple of weeks time. Full dates are here.
