Approved: MYPET

You have to hand it to all these mysterious electronic outfits, they’re getting pretty good at being mysterious. Evidence suggests, for example, that MYPET have been active online for over a year. And at the very least they were offering free downloads of several tracks on their website back in March this year. Although to those who can’t be bothered to do ten minutes of Google sleuthing, they’re just Amy and Ray from LA, who until just under two weeks ago didn’t exist.
Anyway, this wiping of their internet history (however long or short it might have been) at least forces us to focus on the one track they have left available, their debut single ‘Pays To Know’, which is due for release on 20 Aug via Luv Luv Luv Records.
Driven by a rhythm beaten out on (or at least sampled from) a hi-hat that sounds like it’s coming close to the end of its life, with a winding bassline and occasional interjections from beefy but understated synths, Amy’s vocals are draped over the top. “I’ve got you were I want you”, she insists. And as where I am is sitting here playing the one song of hers that I can find to listen to, I guess she probably has.
