Approved: NONONO – Like The Wind

NONONO are a trio formed of singer-songwriter Stina Wäppling and production duo Astma & Rocwell. The latter pair are already well established as songwriters and producers in Stockholm, but are seemingly on board as fully-fledged members of this project. A bit like the set up of Miike Snow, I guess, though sonically quite different.
Having signed to Warner Music in Sweden this summer, they are now preparing to release their debut single ‘Like The Wind’. This being their only track currently online, it may be a little too early to start heaping too much praise on NONONO, but given the strength of this song and Astma & Rocwell’s track record (not least with the wonderful Icona Pop), it seems reasonable to think that the quality of this one track is probably not a one-off.
The thud of the bass drum is offset by a rolling guitar line and Wäppling’s clear cut voice, which moves you around in a variety of directions before settling on a hook that is pure pop, if masked by more indie-leaning production. And like all good pop hooks should, it stands up very well to mildly obsessive repeat plays.
