Formed in Oslo in 2009, Philco Fiction released mini-album, ‘Give Us To The Lions’ the following year. The seven track opus saw them spring fully formed with a collection of warm, bold and ambitious pop songs, but it’s on their debut full-length album, ‘Take It Personal’, released in Norway at the end of last year, where they really flourish.
Opening track ‘Help!’ deceives you into believing it shares the same fragility as its title but, with a chorus full of funked up synths and frontwoman Turid Solberg’s most forceful vocals, it can more than stand up for itself. From here, the trio refuse to pin their sound down to one single point, keeping things interesting, delivering a series of great pop songs and pulling it all off with effortless skill.
Currently looking for a UK home for ‘Take It Personal’, the band are readying for the release their debut UK single, the seven and a half minute ‘A Portrait Of Silence’, and you can hear three more tracks from the album below.
Philco Fiction will also be supporting the brilliant Giana Factory at the next Ja Ja Ja night at The Lexington in London on 26 Jan, making it a gig not to be missed.
