Approved: Rose Elinor Dougall – Strange Warnings

Whilst I won’t claim to have liked Rose Elinor Dougall’s one-time band, polka dot gal-gang The Pipettes, a great deal, I do really like Dougall’s track ‘Strange Warnings’, which is released as a not-at-all strange warning that Dougall has an LP on its way. That, and a live date at London’s Shacklewell Arms on 14 Aug.
With creative writing links to Oli Bayston (who, following a stint with indie niceties Keith, makes remixes via his new alias Boxed In), ‘Strange Warnings’ deals, Dougall has said via The Quietus, with “the idea of trying to find something to grab when everything feels intangible”.
Virtually flying in that theme’s hazy face, the track is in fact a highly vivid and well-placed presentation, stirring its dreamy wind n strings wavelets and ethereal “might have been” lyrics into a pristine, non-slip rhythmic base:
