London-based producer Throwing Snow (I’m guessing that’s not his real name, but you never know) channels the sounds of the golden era of dance music (ie techno and electro from circa 20 years ago), but nevertheless manages to make his tracks sound totally 2011 with his subtle but devastating nods to dubstep.
Having already demonstrated his considerable talent via releases on Sneaker Social Club, Domino and Alexander Nut’s Ho_Tep label, his new EP ‘Too Polite’ comes out via Local Action Records, and continues in a similar vein, with three tracks of evocative electronic listening music that you could probably dance to, were it not for the brilliantly unsettling and jittery pseudo-two step beats peppered throughout.
Lead track ‘Pyre’, with its deftly deployed use of Augustus Ghost’s vocals, is a frankly mesmerising slice of ice-cool beautifully programmed dubstep whilst the other two tracks range from the deep dnb dirtiness of title track ‘Too Polite’ to the almost-pop chillwave of ‘Equuleus’.
The ‘Too Polite’ EP follows previous releases on Local Action this year by T. Williams, Damu, Paul Woolford and Contakt. Clips of all three tracks from Throwing Snow’s EP are streaming now on the SoundCloud player below, whilst you can immerse yourself in some of Mr Snow’s previous releases here.
