Texan outfit White Denim are a band of two halves. Just take the quartet’s latest album, ‘D’, which exploits their penchant for shape-shifting between unruly psych-rock chancers, not to be taken too seriously, and an accomplished garage group capable of pulling together fast-paced, finely-plotted prog masterworks.
Meanwhile new track ‘No Real Reason’, taken from the top of WD’s new EP, ‘Takes Place In Your Work Space’, hits a different note entirely. The closest they’ll ever come to writing a love song, it starts life as an eyes-closed, wistful sway, gathering up its softer layers in time to break forth into a turbulent whirl of agonised guitars and crashing cymbals.
