CMU Approved
Approved: Zulu Winter
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 21 September 2011
Having emerged on the scene almost exactly a year ago with a set of intriguing demos, Zulu Winter’s name has been flashed up in front of my eyes with increasing regularity over the last few weeks (helped not least by a mention on Pitchfork). The London quartet have now announced that they will release their debut single, ‘Never Leave’, through Double Denim (home also to the recently CMU approved Outfit) on 7 Nov.
A track that’s begging for a massive soundsystem or a festival main stage to do it justice, ‘Never Leave’ is a bold opening gambit from the band. The track’s thick bass surrounds it like a warm glow, pulsing and rippling as synth circles it and drums clatter underneath it. And as this ball of sound rolls ever more urgently forward, it hits its target with a great chorus.
You can hear the track below, and you’ll have a chance to catch them live when they support The Duke Spirit at The Scala later this month, and then Friendly Fires at Brixton Academy in November.
