CMU Beef Of The Week #157: Ad-Rock v James Murphy

Hip hop is the spiritual home of the beef, so this is a particularly poignant Beef Of The Week. OK, it only features one rapper, but hip hop beefs can also transcend genres. Or something, I don’t know.
Anyway, Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock, aka Adam Horovitz, is upset because former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy broke his fridge. Now Horovitz is out $150. Oh yeah, it’s a big one. Spying Murphy while being interviewed by Vulture, Horovitz exclaimed, “There’s James Murphy. He owes me $150”.
That’s not the kind of thing you leave hanging, so interviewer Jenni Avins probed further. “He stayed at my apartment a long time ago and broke the refrigerator and didn’t get it fixed”, explained Horovitz. “I had to fix it”.
But how did James Murphy break the fridge? “I don’t know!”, shouted Horovitz. “It was just broken. He stayed at my place, and I moved back in and the refrigerator didn’t work. I was like, ‘Dude, what’s up with the refrigerator?’ He was like, ‘Oh yeah!’ What kinda shit is that?”
Murphy has not yet commented, though if we put on enough pressure I’m sure he’ll pay up. The campaign starts here!
