This Saturday I spent several hours standing in the courtyard of London’s Somerset House in the rain to watch Tim Minchin kick off this year’s somewhat ironically named ‘Summer Series’ programme. Thankfully, he was very funny and the time flew by, so I didn’t mind getting quite so wet. I’d like to say I tipped the show in this here column last week, but I didn’t. But that’s because the Five Day Forecast is always bursting with quality stuff as it is, of course. I mean, just look at all this…

01: Westminster Music Forum. The WFP will stage an event tomorrow titled ‘The UK Music Industry – Copyright, Business Models And The Next Steps For The Live Music Act’. Chaired by Live Music Act proponent Lord Clement-Jones, amongst the speakers will be the BPI’s Geoff Taylor, AEG Live’s Rob Hallett, Radiohead manager and head of the MMF Brian Message, and Featured Artists Coalition chair Sandie Shaw.

02: CMU Training. If you want more discussion of copyright and the issues surrounding it, our introductory guide to UK copyright law and how it applies to music – ‘Music Rights: Inside & Out’ – will be taking place again this Wednesday. If you work in music in any capacity then you work in the copyright industry and this information is essential. The course takes place in East London and places are still available. Book here.

03: Losers live in London. Our very own Eddy Temple-Morris and his band Losers, which also features former members of Oceansize, Yourcodenameis:milo and The Cooper Temple Clause, as well as Ivor Novello-winning songwriter Jem Godfrey, will be headlining 93 Feet East in London this Wednesday as they gear up for the release of their second album, ‘So We Shall Never Part’. Support comes from Horsefight and BB, plus there’ll be a DJ set from Rednek.

04: New releases. The big new releases you should be pointing your ears at this week are the new albums from Dan Le Sac and Twin Shadow, both of which are excellent. Plus you can get your hands on new singles by Pink, ‘X-Factor’ alumnus Paije Richardson, Au Revoire Simone’s Erika Spring and Summer Camp, should you so wish.

05: Gigs. Not wishing to be overshadowed by the horrible events at their Dublin show at the weekend, Swedish House Mafia will play their final UK show before they split later this year at the Milton Keyes Bowl on Saturday. As well as that Kylie will sing with Jason at The Hit Factory Live, Adam Lambert will sing with Queen at their Sonisphere replacement shows at the Hammersmith Apollo, Ed Sheeran will sing in a forest, Norwegian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft will appear at London’s Oval Space, and you can catch the Bestival Wildlife Summer Party too.

And don’t forget to check out the latest edition of our podcast, which you’ll find right here.
