And Finally
Grimes denies trolling Boiler Room
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 16 August 2013
Usually filmed in dark and gloomy clubby spaces, online club Boiler Room has relocated to Richie Hawtin’s back garden in Ibiza. One of the artists invited to come and lay on the sunshine party tunes was Grimes. And that she did, rolling out tracks by artists like Taylor Swift, The Ramones, Nicki Minaj, The Venga Boys, and most brilliantly (but not summery) of all, Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
This perplexed a lot of people watching the live stream, leading many to accuse her of ‘trolling’ Boiler Room, intentionally and “ironically” playing a load of tracks that she knew would annoy the website’s faithful.
Responding to this yesterday, she tweeted: “I don’t think there is a DJ rule book”. She also added: “I will leave it at this: Nothing about anything I do is ironic”.
Also, her love of Mariah Carey is pretty well documented.
