Later… With Jools Holland to move to Maidstone Studios
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 8 March 2013
The recording of BBC Two’s ‘Later… With Jools Holland’ is to move to Maidstone Studios after the show was turfed out, along with everything else, of the closing-down BBC Television Centre in West London. The move means it’ll now be a right ball-ache to go and watch it being filmed. Oh well.
Anyway, the show’s Executive Producer Mark Cooper told Music Week: “We spent the best part of a year ever since the closure of TV Centre was announced going around to virtually every studio in the London area looking at all kinds of facilities. It’s taken an awful lot of time. We were a month away [from the new series] and we had been looking for a year”.
Praising the final choice of studio, and denying what I said earlier, he continued: “[The new studio is] a wonderful size. It’s bigger than TC1 at Television Centre. We won’t use all the space, but we can adapt the size. It’s accessible around the M25 and you can get to it from Central London via St Pancras so it will be relatively easy to get to. It’s got a great sound desk and that’s important for ‘Later…’ and they have made us very welcome”.
Yeah, bit of a ball-ache. It’ll be alright for Jools though, as he lives in Kent. Says Cooper: “He’s a Southeast London boy and he feels good about it”.
