Grammy winning producer and songwriter RedOne, who has worked with such stars as Michael Jackson, Sean Kingston, Enrique Iglesias and Akon, and is best known of late for producing Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, has done a deal with Universal Music which will see him running his own imprint label with the major.

The label, called 2101, will sit under Universal Music International, with RedOne signing and producing new talent. First on the roster is singer-songwriter Mohombi, who has been jetting between studios in LA and Stockholm to write and record his debut album.

Announcing his new deal with Universal, RedOne told CMU: “I am so privileged to be in business with the Universal family in this new venture. We already have had so much success together, I know that this is the best home for my music and for my artists. Lucian [Grainge] and I share a common vision for creating sounds and platforms for new artists, not only writing hit songs, but building brands. We are incredibly fortunate to be launching with an artist like Mohombi, who has so much potential. He is a powerhouse talent … writing, singing, performing, dancing… a true entertainer. Mohombi lifts my spirits and I believe he will elevate the world with his music”.

The first single from Mohombi’s album, entitled ‘Bumpy Ride’, will be release on 4 Oct, distributed through Universal/Island in the UK.
