Four more radio bods will be inducted into the Radio Academy’s Hall Of Fame at a PPL-hosted dinner at the Radio Festival in Salford next week, and the inductees for this year have been confirmed as Danny Baker, Sandi Toksvig, Margherita Taylor and Helen Mayhew.
The timing of the Hall Of Fame event is somewhat embarrassing for BBC London, which announced it was axing Baker’s afternoon show just last week, leading to the popular host launching a very vocal attack against management at the Beeb’s London channel, during what he decreed would be his last show for the station. BBC London bosses had intended Baker to stay with them until Christmas.
Confirming this year’s inductees, Absolute Radio boss Clive Dickens, in his guise as Chair of the Radio Festival, told reporters: “The PPL Hall Of Fame Dinner is set to be an exciting night of celebration for the industry. The awards evening acknowledges those people who have shone continuously in their chosen medium and who have brought fascinating and inspiring content to audiences”.
