Universal Music has announced the appointment of Ron Fair to the role of Exec VP and Chief Creative Officer of former EMI division Virgin Records in the US, an appointment that sees the Virgin Records brand re-kickstarted in the States, having been basically absorbed by Capitol Records there in recent years.

That said, promotions and other back-office tasks will still be handled by central Capitol departments, though Fair will have his own A&R and marketing teams. He will report into Capitol Music Group CEO Steve Barnett. A&R man and record producer Fair has previously worked at various majors in his thirty-year career, including both Universal and EMI, as well as dabbling in artist management.

As previously reported, in the UK former Island Records co-chief Ted Cockle will lead the newly acquired Virgin Records for Universal.
