Westwood moves to Choice
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 16 September 2013
As he clocked out of the BBC for the final time this weekend, Tim Westwood revealed that he is heading to Choice FM, having been given a gig by Global Radio chief Richard Park, the first man to hire the hip hop DJ way back in the day.
Westwood tweeted: “Shout out to Richard Park he gave me my first job & he’s hired me again #WestwoodChoiceFM21stSept”, and shortly after that Choice FM posted to its Twitter feed: “The Big Dawg is coming… next and every Saturday night 9-11. Westwood on Choice!”
Meanwhile Park told reporters: “Tim Westwood is a true pioneer of the music and radio industry in this country. He is the undoubted king of urban and hip hop in the UK and we are thrilled to welcome him to Global and Choice FM”.
It was announced Westwood would depart Radio 1 after two decades back in July, and unlike with most veteran DJs phased out from the pop station, a booking at Radio 2 or 6music didn’t quickly follow.
