Four Tet announces single, all-night Brixton date

Four Tet

In addition to debuting his forthcoming single ‘Jupiter’, electronic producer Kieran Hebden – aka Four Tet – has also shared details of a live date taking place at South London’s Brixton Academy on 2 Nov.

Tickets for the show, which will run throughout the night and feature marathon DJ sets by Four Tet, Caribou and tbc extra guests, are priced at £5 each (plus £1.60 booking fee) in fond memory of the time Hebden says he “saw Fugazi at Brixton in the 1990s… £5 ticket, no light show, no bullshit… one of the best things I’ve ever seen”.

The just mentioned ‘Jupiter’ will be released with its B-side ‘Ocaras’ via Hebden’s own Text Records on an as-yet unspecified date in the future.

As you speculate on exactly what that date might be, listen to the former track here:

The Wanted may tour or record with Chris Brown

The Wanted

When The Wanted aren’t busy making antagonistic remarks about sundry female pop stars, they can customarily be found saying nice things about Chris Brown, with whom they may or may not be recording/touring with soon.

The band alluded to an alliance with the rapper during an on-air interview for Capital FM last week, saying that Scooter Braun – manager of serial Brown collaborator Justin Bieber and now also seemingly representing the British boy band in the US – had been in talks with Breezy as to potential duet opportunities.

Says The Wanted’s Max George: “We met Chris Brown – he came in and saw us at the studio when we were rehearsing – and he was actually really sound. He said he liked our music and stuff. He’d spoke to Scooter since then and said he’d love to do a song with us so who knows? If it’s the right song then we’ll do it”.

Bandmate Tom Parker then said: “There’s talk about us, he’s got his American tour coming up in July, maybe we’ll go on that for a few shows which will be cool. Hitting that urban market – The Wanted go urban”.

Roger Taylor won’t perform with hologram Freddie Mercury

Queen

When everyone was chatting about Tupac’s holographic guest appearance at Coachella recently, and speculation began as to what other dead artists might be resurrected on the live stage using the same ‘not-really-a-hologram’ technology, a lot of Twitter-chatterers predicted Brian May and Roger Taylor would be playing with a virtual Freddie Mercury by the end of the year, squeezing even more out of the Mercury-era Queen legacy.

But Taylor says no. Though he’s not opposed to other people performing Queen songs with a computer generated Freddie. And given the drummer is in the process of launching the officially-sanctioned Queen tribute show, which is set to tour the world with only very occasional guest spots from May and Taylor, that still means holograms could feature in official Queen ventures, if not when the remaining members of the band themselves play.

Asked about all the talk of a holographic Mercury joining him and guitarist May on stage, Taylor told reporters: “I would not like to perform with a hologram of Freddie. Were somebody [else] to use a hologram of Freddie I would have no objection, but [for me] it’s the real one or nothing. It doesn’t sit too well for me to appear with a hologram of my dear friend. But I think it is an amazing effect when used properly”.

Cypress rapper Sen Dog says this of the EP (which, despite being billed for release this month, doesn’t seem to be out yet): “I think dubstep is a natural progression of hip hop. Especially the way that we formulated it with Rusko, there’s definitely some roughness to it”.
