Superb Latin vocalist Guida da Palma and her crew head again to the Kemia bar for a free gig - and hurrah to that. I spied them in this plush North African styled venue in the basement of Momos for their brilliant self titled album release party and I was an instant convert to their sunny Latin based jazz numbers. Coming after a successful Jazz Cafe gig last month - they are on the up - and play the fashionable Spitz venue on Tuesday night too. Miss them at you peril!!

VIGSY'S CLUB TIP: Fabric.
If I was in town (which I'm not, but that's another story) I'd bee-line for this one - one reason: Fabrice Lig. This 27 year old Belgian teacher can cut techno with soul effortlessly, providing a perfect link between jazz to electronica. His last LP on F Comm was recorded as Soul Designer and was simply awesome. Tonight he takes to the stage live - who knows what will eminated from his Akai and Roland??? Also on Fabric's Saturday bill are Terry Francis and Marco Passarani of the Peacefrog label. The Tyrant room features stalwards Craig Richards and Lee Burridge while the 'other' room has Baby Mammoth, Beige and Solid Doctor. A tad steep on the door, and silly queues, but a proper club.

P2P TECHNOLOGY FIRM SUE RIAA
In a not completely un-ironic turn of events, a technology company who make software to aid P2P file sharing is suing the Recording Industry Association of America over allegations the music industry trade body has infringed their patent.
Altnet make a patented technology that identifies requested files on P2P networks - they have worked closely with Kazaa owners Sharman Networks in developing their software.
Altnet now claim the RIAA and companies like Overpeer and Loudeye, who the industry association use to flood P2P networks with fake tracks and track requests, use Altnet-based identification methods in their work and in doing so are infringing their patent.
To that end Altnet is seeking a permanent injunction barring the companies it is suing from using file-matching technology covered by its patent, while seeking compensation for monetary damages for the defendants' use of the technology to date.
The RIAA is yet to comment on the lawsuit, though a spokesman for Overpeer told reporters yesterday: "We vigorously deny these claims and find them to be completely baseless and without merit".

NEW VICE-CHAIRMAN FOR AIM
This one just in. Jeremy Lascelles, CEO of Chrysalis Music Division, has been elected to the post of Vice-Chairman of the Association of Independent Music. Lascelles, who was elected to the association's board at their 2003 AGM, takes over the Vice-Chairman post from ex-board member Peter Quicke (Ninja Tune MD), who retired by rotation at June's AGM.

CREAM BLOW OUT THE CANDLES
Fresh from the success of Creamfields, the Cream team are back in hometown Liverpool on Saturday 9 Oct to celebrate their birthday at Nation.
Headlining the event is the infamous and flamboyant Mr Erick Morillo who will be plugging the release of his second single 'What Do You Want' and the Morillo mixed 'Subliminal Winter Sessions Vol. 2'. STONE AND JAGGER SING YULETIDE DUET
Joss Stone is to perform a Christmas duet with Mick Jagger - the 17-year-old singer and the 61-year-old Rolling Stone have recorded a version of Mud's 'Lonely This Christmas'. Presumably it will be released in time for the Christmas chart and, boy band releases and dreary ballads from cult movies permitting, could well be a contender for the festive number one spot.
Meanwhile, as previously reported, Stone has also recorded a version of 'Alfie' for the soundtrack of the remake of the legendary film. That project also came courtesy of Jagger, who is coordinating the 'Alfie' with Dave Stewart. The pair co-wrote the soundtrack's key song, 'Old Habits Die Hard' which also features Jaggers' vocals.

UNSEEN STRUMMER GOES ON SHOW
Unseen pictures and memorabilia documenting the early work of Joe Strummer are to go on show in a new exhibition in London. 'Joe Strummer Past, Present and Future' will be staged at the London Print Studio in Harrow Road, West London, an area synonymous with Strummer in his pre-Clash days, where he fronted The 101ers, so-called because they used to squat at 101 Walterton Road.
Photographer Julian Yewdall, who took the majority of the pictures and was a founder member of The 101ers, told reporters this week: "Joe was a reliable guy with a lot of energy and a lot of determination. Pretty early on he had that leadership ability, he was very motivated. I remember him with affection."
The exhibition has been organised by Walterton and Elgin Community Homes - the area's housing association. It will also benefit the charity Strummerville - a community project for young musicians set up in his honour.

CLUB NME GOES ON UNI TOUR!
Club NME, which already runs weekly at Stealth in Nottingham, is to go on a national tour of universities. Har Mar Superstar and DJs Queens of Noize will be on the decks to entertain students during Freshers' fortnight.
Har Mar said: "I'm going to have a party and try to get all the kids dancing in their gymnasiums or wherever these shows are gonna be raising havoc with my friends the Queens of Noize. We're gonna start trouble everywhere!"
Of Queens of Noize he continued: "They sort of know everybody somehow, kind of in the same way I do. We met a couple of years ago the first time I went over and I think I went to their night at the Barfly. We're sort of kindred spirits, they both like to be out the front going wild and running around, so we just ended up joining forces and making parties happen all over the city. And we've remained friends since then."

GWEN STEFANI COLLABORATES
No Doubt's Gwen Stefani has been talking to Rolling Stone about her new album, which features collaborations with New Order, Dr. Dre, OutKast, the Neptunes and Depeche Mode's Martin Gore. Most importantly - don't call it a solo album.
Stefani: "The whole idea was to collaborate. To do a solo record means trying to pour my heart out, which I feel like I already do in No Doubt. This is more of an art project. I wanted to play different roles and work with a ton of people."
The album is due for release on 23 Nov.

ALBUM REVIEW: American Music Club - Love Songs For Patriots (Cooking Vinyl)
Another month, another comeback record. 2004 has seen the re-emergence of numerous bands who had disbanded, been written off, or nearly forgotten; Morrissey, The Pixies, The Blue Nile, and now American Music Club join the list. The name may mean little to some, but that's hardly a surprise. AMC are one of the most under appreciated bands of the late 80s/early 90s, barely known outside critical circles and their devoted fan base, who have been waiting for this reunion with great anticipation. Front man Mark Eitzel may have enjoyed a prolific solo career after AMC split in 1994, but this is where he belongs; his talents are more focused in this set up. 'Love Songs For Patriots' demonstrates that the old magic is there; it's as if they never disbanded. It's a superb blend of alt-rock, folk, jazz, and blues, blessed with Eitzel's excellent song writing (he's a former Rolling Stone songwriter of the year). The opening two tracks 'Ladies and Gentlemen' and 'Another Morning' have been available on the AMC website for a while now, and have also been played live; and they kick off the album magnificently. Eitzel has been revitalised by the Bush administration and 9/11; his lyrics articulately reveal the frustration and fury many feel in the US currently, without resorting to cheap sloganeering. Yet he can still compose the emotionally affecting songs he's renowned for; witness 'Only Love Can Set You Free' and 'Love Is', two absolutely breathtaking tracks that sit nicely alongside the likes of 'Why Won't You Stay' and 'Western Sky'. This is an album that many have been waiting for, and many thought they would never see, but there has always been there impression that AMC had unfinished business. This album proves they're still amongst the finest rock bands of their generation. It's one of the years finest, without question, and it's great to have them back. KW

WIPPIT PREPARE TO LAUNCH MOBILE DOWNLOAD SERVICE
London based digital music company Wippit has announced it is beta testing a mobile download system which will let consumers download audio and video tracks to their mobile phones.
Customers will send an SMS message to Wippit in order to receive a special player. Through this player they will then be able to download videos and audio tracks at £3 and £1.50 (GBP) a time respectively.
Announcing the new development Wippit boss Paul Myers told CMU: "When Wippit launched the first legal P2P service in 2001 we offered ringtones so that our users could find everything in one place. After that we introduced the first mobile search facility for MP3's and downloads, including the incorporation of sound recognition technology. Downloading directly to your mobile phone is the logical next step on the path we've been treading since launch. We've been waiting for the handset and network capability to catch up, and now it has."
To deliver the mobile service Wippit is working in partnership with SlamTV, a mobile entertainment provider, using a technology platform provided by WebTV Europe plc. Slam TV boss Gavin Wiseman told us: "SlamTV is delighted to be working with both Wippit and WebTV. Wippit has been a pioneer in bringing digital downloads to consumers and recognises the strength of this exciting new entertainment platform - WebTV has opened up the way for major music labels to find a secure route to market."

FIVE YEAR WAIT FOR NEW STROKES ALBUM
OK, how patient are you feeling? Well, if you're a Strokes fan you may have to wait five years for a new album.
Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr has told the NME that while the band are heading back to New York with producer Gordon Raphael they are in no hurry to record their third album, a follow up to 'Room On Fire': "You always set a schedule for yourself. A little bit of pressure always works a little better but I mean there's no set time. In our heads we have certain ideals we want to accomplish. But that's all, (it) could be five years. I don't want to [stay away that long]. I just don't like saying - I'd rather say five and have it be two than me saying one and it be three."
Asked how many songs had been written already he continued: "I would say a good amount right now. I don't want to put a number on it. It's more quality than quantity, even if it's just like one, you put out that one. That makes it more exciting than having 30 shitty songs. These ones are even more extreme. They are like third record songs. It's nice to see that - it means the progress is still going. We have a lot of work to do and it's so easy to talk about working and so hard to actually do it."

DESTINY'S CHILD ARE FULFILLED
Destiny's Child have announced their new album out in November will be called 'Destiny Fulfilled'. According to MTV the first single from the album will be 'Lose My Breath'. A tour is due to start in the Spring of 2005.

COXON PLANS NEXT ALBUM
Graham Coxon is already talking about his plans for a follow-up to the 'Happiness In Magazines' album and he predicts he will be recording the new record with the same producer - Stephen Street.
He told Xfm: "I've just had a little meeting with my people and Mr Street. I've been demoing for a while now, so I think I'm ready to make another album. I reckon Stephen will be doing the next one. I enjoyed it last time we recorded, it was really smooth."
Coxon will be re-releasing his previously limited edition single 'Freakin' Out' - backed with double A-side 'All Over Me - on 25 Oct. He will also be playing his biggest ever headlining show at the Kentish Town Forum in London on 27 Nov.

NEW BELFAST FM LICENCE ADVERTISED
The next radio frenzy is likely to take place in Belfast. OfCom have advertised a lucrative new commercial licence for the city with a potential audience reach of 750,000, and many of the major players are likely to bid.
EMAP, who has already said it will compete for all major new licences, are sure to bid, though which of their brands they put forward remains to be seen. Scottish Media Group is also rumoured to be bidding, most likely for another regional outpost for Virgin Radio. GWR are yet to confirm one way or the other - though both Chrysalis and Capital say they won't be bidding.

GLC ANNOUNCE HOMECOMING GIG
One for all our Welsh readers, with their debut album out on Monday, Goldie Lookin' Chain have announced a huge Christmas homecoming show in Newport. They will play the town's NCLA on 15 Dec.
As for next week, the rappers will be performing and signing copies of their debut album 'Greatest Hits' (out on Monday) next Tuesday (14 Sep) at London's Oxford Street Virgin Megastore at 3pm. On the same day, Goldie Lookin' Chain will also be playing the 'Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Black Arrow' computer game on Xbox Live, which means that you can hook up to the internet to play against one of GLC.
On Thursday they will play Xfm's Remix Night at Cargo, alongside Freeform Five and Rennie Pilgrem.

THE THRILLS JOIN OXFAM LINEUP
The Thrills have been added to next week's Oxfam fair trade gig. As previously reported, the 'secret' headliners for the benefit at London Hammersmith Apollo on 14 Sep are REM. Also on the bill are Jamelia and actress Minnie Driver.
The Thrills release their new album 'Let's Bottle Bohemia' on 13 Sep. REM guitarist Peter Buck contributes guitar and mandolin to one track, meaning speculation that he may join The Thrills onstage next week.

ASH GO ACOUSTIC
Ash have revealed their next album may be acoustic.
Ash bassist Mark Hamilton told Xfm: "We actually are thinking of going into the studio in February and recording again. And we might do something like an acoustic album, just to have something out there next year while we're out. We've got a load of songs that we haven't recorded, which is more acoustic-y stuff, that wouldn't have fit on 'Meltdown' as we tried to keep that a more rocking album. But we might do that just to get them out there."
