GLASTONBURY SOLD OUT
Well, we said ticket sales for this year's Glastonbury were going fast but we didn't realise they were going that fast. The flagship music festival sold out yesterday with every ticket being sold within twenty four hours of going on sale – last year tickets were on sale for nearly ten weeks before sell out. Michael Eavis told reporters yesterday he thought world events may be discouraging people from travelling abroad, meaning more are willing to commit to spending a June weekend in Somerset this summer.

Some insiders reckon increased security last year came as a surprise to those festival-goers used to fence hopping, persuading them that this year they really needed to get a ticket. Either way there is bound to be a lot of disappointed music fans who didn't get on the phone quite quick enough, which might mean even more people showing up on spec come Glastonbury weekend in the hope to buy a pass from a tout, which will make the challenge of controlling crowds in the villages around the Glastonbury site even tougher.

Talking of touts, tickets are already going for hiked prices on Ebay. But Michael Eavis has vowed to tackle the touts – he says they have already spoken to Ebay about banning the sale of Glastonbury tickets above standard ticket price. Plus all tickets will not be sent out until two weeks before the event – organisers hope this will enable them to spot people trying to sell tickets at a hiked price before they receive the actual tickets. Meanwhile on the line up front Moby has confirmed he will be playing on the Pyramid Stage in the slot which some had rumoured would be filled by Prince. As previously reported a Prince fan site had denied he would be appearing this weekend.

FESTIVAL UPDATE
Elsewhere in festival line up news, Kelly Osbourne has been added to the V Festival bill where she will play alongside the likes of Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Feeder, The Hives, Echo And The Bunnymen and The Cardigans. Ms Osbourne has also confirmed gigs at the Electric Ballroom in Camden on 25 Jun and Manchester Academy 3 on 26 Jun. Meanwhile Coldplay have been confirmed as headliners at the Irish Witnness Festival. They top a bill which also includes Zwan, Underworld, The Streets, The Flaming Lips, The Polyphonic Spree, The Datsuns, Supergrass, Echo And The Bunnymen and Lemon Jelly. FESTIVAL RECORDS ARCHIVE UNDER THE HAMMER
Festival Records – the Murdoch owned record label which acquired Mushroom Records back in 1997 – is selling off a load of memorabilia following the closure of one of their studio complex. Festival was founded in the early fifties and as well as signing home grown acts they represented many other international artists in Australia - so they own a lot of musical history, plenty of which is included in the sale. There are items from numerous artists in the sale including Barry White, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Don McLean, Divinyls, Garbage, Grace Jones, Jason Donovan, Joe Cocker, Mental as Anything, Nick Cave, Robert Palmer, Roy Orbison, Shirley Bassey, Sting, Supertramp, Tina Turner and many more. The bad news is that as far as we can make out you’d have to go to Sydney to bid! But if you interested check http://www.graysonline.com.au/sale.asp?SALE_ID=5428#SaleInfo

POP NAMES LINE UP FOR CHARITY GIG
Blue, Atomic Kitten, Craig David, Girls Aloud, Liberty X, Mis-teeq, Big Brovaz and Busted are among the artists lined up for a charity gig in aid of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy to take place at Manchester's MEN Avenue on 14 May. Talking about the gig the Kitten’s Liz McClarnon told reporters: "We are thrilled to be asked to participate, not only because it's a brilliant line-up but also because everybody involved is helping to back up some of the invaluable work that the music therapists do, putting people's lives back together."

YOUSEF WANTS TO BE CLEAR ON THE LIVERPOOL CIRCUS CLUBS
Yousef has released a statement to let everyone know that the Liverpool club Circus Circus, taking place at the 051 club this weekend, is not anything to do with his Circus night, which will next take place at The Masque on 12 Apr. "The 'Circus Circus' night is a club-night of pop, trance and Scouse House (in their words not mine!), they do sporadic parties every now and again and just happen to have a very similar name to my Circus and have their night in Liverpool! Neither of us wants to change our names so I felt I should let everyone know the situation. I've been getting lots of calls from confused people asking what I'm playing at hosting parties at 051 (no offence). I'm not annoyed but I do want to set the record straight and let you all know to have no fear, I'm not moving from my house roots and that it's not me."

REVIEW: Various - All Tomorrow’s Parties 3.0 (Vital)
All Tomorrow's Parties, the festival for people who don’t like the grubby bits of Glasto and/or read The Wire, is now in its fourth year. This year's curators are Autechre. Their own contribution (a Roland TB303 on acid autopilot) to this companion CD disappoints, but there are plenty of gems to unveil if you wade through some of the tuneless wank on offer. The reflective moods of Push Button Cocktails' 'ATP Track' (a simple evocative piece of organic melancholy) and Bola's 'Magnasushi' (a wondrous otherworldly symphony) sit prettily along with slightly more aggressive, moody techno, such as BFC's 'Please Stand By' (Moby on ketamine) and Artifax's Stasis (a glistening Bladerunner-esque soundscape). Tracks by Earth (ten minutes of guitar feedback – great), Pita (boring minimalism), Hecker (an ISDN line crackling), Jim O'Rourke and OST (both utterly pointless forays into sound effects territory), however, epitomise the self-indulgent, difficult-but-rewarding (yawn) 'experimental' toss that invariably appears at each year's ATP, sandwiched between the good stuff. Eclectic, maybe, but very much a mixed bag. MS

QUEEN TOP VIRGIN ALBUM SURVEY
A Virgin Radio listener survey on the ultimate album has put Queen's first ever chart topping album, 1975's 'A Night At The Opera', at the top. It was the album that carried that other survey topper 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. The top ten is as follows.

1. Queen - A Night At The Opera
2. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
3. Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
4. U2 - The Joshua Tree
5. Nirvana - Nevermind
6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
7. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
8. B Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
9. The Beatles - Revolver
10. REM - Automatic For The People

Virgin DJ Daryl Denham, whose listeners voted in the survey, said, when announcing the top 10 yesterday: "The Beatles' stranglehold on these polls seems to have been broken but you can't complain about the albums that beat them."

AOL TEAM UP WITH US RADIO GROUP
America Online have formed a marketing partnership with US radio group Infinity Broadcasting to promote their broadband services. All Infinity will be fitted with AOL's broadband service and at least five of the group's stations will be streamed via AOL Radio@ Network, one of the services AOL has set up to promote broadband use.

R KELLY RELEASES SONG FOR THE TROOPS
With US radio shunning the plethora of anti-war tracks that have been released via the internet of late, is it any surprise that a new track by R. Kelly which has been described as a "tribute to the courageous soldiers and military men and women who are risking their lives to preserve freedom" is getting mucho radio play from more than 25 key radio stations over there?

Talking about the track R Kelly told reporters: "This song is my way of saying thank you to everyone protecting us, and allowing us to sleep comfortable at night and send our children off to school in the morning. Some of these young men and women are just 18-20 years old themselves, some have never left their hometown prior to basic or advanced training. The fact that their journey is far, frightening, and unfamiliar to them does not stop them." The song will be released on 23 Apr to raise money to support the families of the soldiers.

Cynics might say that while R Kelly's intentions are no doubt honourable the patriotic track will help him score brownie points with Middle America as he awaits trial on 21 counts of child pornography and under-age sex.

FORMER OASIS DRUMMER LOSES APPEAL
Former Oasis drummer Anthony McCarroll's has been unsuccessful in his legal action against lawyers Statham Gill Davies who, he claimed, were negligent when they advised him to sign a contract with Sony that gave the Gallagher brothers complete control over the Oasis name and the ability to sack him on whim. As previously reported the high court went against the drummer last November because by the time he began legal action he had been out of the band for nearly seven years – which fell outside the six-year legal time limit. This week the appeal court backed that view. Presumably some lawyer somewhere told him to sue Anthony McCarrolls in the first place – perhaps he could now sue them for giving dodgy advice.

GLOBAL COPYRIGHT TEST WITH MOVIE INDUSTRY’S APPEAL
The copyright police will be watching a court case in Norway next December with interest, though it's the film industry with most to lose this time. The court case surrounds Norwegian teenager Jon Johansen who developed software that allowed DVD duplication, and then put it in the internet.

The Motion Picture Association of America sued Johansen for copyright violation, but an Oslo court said they couldn't prove the defendant had used his software to illegally pirate DVDs. According to Norwegian law it is OK to make duplicate copies of DVDs you have bought providing they are for your own use, and the court said there wasn't any proof to suggest that he had done more than that his technology. The studios are now appealing and Johansen's attorney has confirmed an appeal hearing as been set for 2 Dec. But he remains confident: "I regard our prospects for the appeal as positive. We are in a stronger position now than ever before, since we won the first time."

The case is interesting because it sets something of a precedent on what American copyright owners can do when their copyrights are violated in countries with slacker copyright legislation. Johansen would be breaking the law in the US under their Digital Copyright Millennium Act.

JA RULE RAP SLATES EMINEM
More bad mouthing through rap. Back when Eminem was having a rap war with Source editor Benzino, Mr Mathers included the line "Ja, you'll get it too". Now Ja Rule has responded through a track on a new mixtape by Murder Inc's Black Child. In the track called 'Go to Sleep' he says: "I'm hunting ya blondie / Em you know you fear me / 'Cause I'm clearly the rap game's Jimmy Hoffa." Whether Eminem will come out of studio hiding to respond we'll have to wait and see.

CRAIG DAVID ADDS PUNJABI LINE TO NEXT SINGLE
Craig David has teamed up with Asian music producer Rishi Rich to produce a remix of his upcoming single 'Rise & Fall' with some added Punbabi. Talking to The Sun Craig said: "I can't pretend to speak Punjabi, but I love the fusion of hip hop R'n'B with Punjabi music. Rishi got me to sing a line in Punjabi which I hope sounds authentic." The track is a duet with Sting and is due out on 28 Apr.

REVIEW: Phaser – Sway (Emperor Norton Records)
Chilled and laid back or just plain boring? It's a tough one to call, although one thing's for certain - it's definitely a case of background music. Although delicate and soothing in places, Phaser's debut album is rather samey and uninspiring. Somewhat depressing and overly lazy, if you like stuff along the lines of Haven and Starsailor this will probably appeal to you, but if you like your music catchy and spine-tinglingly climatic you might just want to add this one to your collection of sleeping music. 50 CENT WANTS MEGA-BUCKS FOR LIFE STORY
26 year old 50 Cent, fresh from his storming album sales success, is looking for a major deal for his authobiography. We're normally cynical of anyone under the age of 35 writing autobiographies, but to be fair 50 Cents did have a drug lord mother who was gunned down when he was 8, and he had been shot nine times before he met up with Eminem and Dr Dre and began on his professional rap career, so I guess there is a story to tell. Reports say he is asking for "high six figures" for the rights to the book, with rumour has it has a working title of 'Number One With Nine Bullets'.
