SHORTLIST MUSIC PRIZE
The Shortlist Organization have announced their ‘long list’ – the 86 albums from which they will now pick a top ten next month before announcing the best overall album of the last twelve months on 16 Oct.

Artists on the Long List include: Interpol, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, the Music, Blur, Damien Rice and Bright Eyes.

The Shortlist is, of course, something of a US version of the Mercury Music Prize – though it’s getting bigger every year and will very soon be a much bigger affair than our own ‘best album of the year’ award.

ONE TRUE VOICE CRITICISE WATERMAN
The One True Voice fall-out has begun following the news yesterday that the Popstars boyband have split before even releasing a debut album. And apparently it's all Pete Waterman’s fault.

Getting the knife in on Waterman yesterday was One True Voice member Jamie Shaw who told the Sun: "We would have stood a chance if Pete had been interested in us. But he did not support us and gave us a horrible Eighties look and sound. He was a great producer ten years ago but he had no idea how to make us work."

Fellow Popstars judge and Girls Aloud manager Louis Walsh was even harsher: “I do not know why Pete Waterman is on Pop Idol. He does not deserve to be on the panel because he is completely out of touch with music. Pete Waterman threatened to kill himself if One True Voice were a failure — well he should do it now. He has killed these lads’ careers and ruined their lives while he sits smugly on the Pop Idol panel. He has turned five talented lads who had the world at their feet into disillusioned, disappointed and depressed ex-pop stars. Millions voted for those lads to be in the band and he has messed up their lives, their careers and their dreams and left them in the gutter. Pete is a liar, a fake and a joke. He has no idea how to make a hit. He has the biggest ego in the world and is only interested in Pete Waterman. He must be taken off Pop Idol immediately. Pete failed, not One True Voice. He made them sing rubbish songs and do dance routines they were uncomfortable with. He said [OTV] were going to be bigger than Westlife or Boyzone and he hasn’t kept his promise. He tells lies and gets away with it.”

JUSTIN STAGE $1M DAMAGE
Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera have had to postpone some shows from their Justified and Stripped tour after structural damage to a ceiling grid caused $1m damage.

A statement from Jive Records reads "The incident is estimated to have caused over 1m dollars in damage to the shows lighting, sound, video and staging. It's undetermined at this time when the tour will resume. All attempts are being made to finish the tour and revisit postponed dates. Ticket holders for the postponed show are encouraged to hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored in the future".

RIAA DENIED STUDENT DETAILS
A federal judge in Boston has rejected an attempt by the RIAA to acquire the names of Boston College and MIT students suspected of online music piracy. US District Judge Joseph L Tauro said that under federal rules, the subpoenas, which were issued in Washington, cannot be served in Massachusetts. This is the latest in a long line of criticism for the way the RIAA is conducting its campaign to force ISPs and colleges to identify individual downloaders.

REVIEW: Lee-Cabrera feat Alex Cartana - Shake it (Move a Little Closer) (Credence)
The New Yorican duo of Steven Lee and Albert Cabrera have decided to re-release their cut as a full-on high energy vocal track. Alex Cartana provides vocals over a jangly pop-house beat, and infectious recircled piano keys, and a latin feel with some chanting thrown in the background. Only the Radio edit here, which is tough enough to get critical acclaim, and perhaps enough to break the charts, it is a bit of a grower. An Onionz and Tony dub is floating about which is rumoured to be a surefire club winner. PV

SAFETY & SECURITY AT CREAMFIELDS
Creamfields organisers have unveiled a host of improved security measures to make this years event the safest yet. Improved measures put in place at last year's event resulted in a 60% drop in crime at the festival. By further increasing lighting, security and policing levels, the organisers and police expect a further reduction in crime at this year’s event which is expected to attract over 40,000 people from across the UK.

Cream say: “Over the last 6 years Creamfields has statistically remained one of the safest festivals in the country, the safety of those attending has always been the organisers main priority, that and making sure that everyone has an amazing and memorable day out. This year's crime reduction strategy includes a greater number of police, stewards, and security officers who are there to help and not hinder. There will be a further 3km of fencing in place this year to prevent non-ticket holders from gaining access to the site, increased ticket checks will be in place, increased lighting along main thoroughfares, the car parks and within the site itself will be put in place to improve visibility, higher levels of security, high visible policing plus CCTV will also be in operation on site throughout the event.”
