REVIEW: Various - Confessions of A Soul Digger (Out of the Loop Recordings)
Cai Bojsen-Moller returns on the up and coming Out of the Loop imprint, after sorties on techno labels Multiplex and Ferox. The Copenhagenite jazz/soul aficionado has lovingly crafted an LP that gets off to a shaky start with ‘Calling Out’ and ‘Music on My Mind’ which are a bit sickly/noodly jazz pieces. Then he flips the script – ‘Burts theme’ has a hint of DJ Shadow, ‘A Love Movement’ has that heavy bass and production that could come off a Compost 12”. ‘Summer Orgy’ reminds us of the Jaziacs ‘Sunflowers’ with the Super Collider deep house feel of ‘The Singing of...’ pushing the envelope a little bit further. ‘No fool, No fun’ is a true jazz lounge piece and well crafted, and ‘Tears in the Eyes’ is haunting and very much in the Jazzanova vein. V LINE UP ADDITIONS
The Doves, ex-Prodigy member Leeroy Thornhill, and Pulp's Steve Mackey have been added to the bill for the sell-out V Festival. The Doves will be DJing a special set of house classics, Thornhill will be playing Miami bass / booty / ghetto tech stuff, and presumably Mackey will be doing something else.

NEW MTV AND SKY DEAL
Viacom and Sky have come to a new deal regarding the distribution of MTV via the Sky network – leaving Viacom £5 million worse off. While most TV channels pay Sky to carry their services, the Sky/MTV deal is the other way round – Sky pay MTV a share of their subscription monies. But with the contract up for renewal this year Sky were expected to drive a hard bargain because of EMAP’s increasing importance in the music TV sector (and, of course, Sky’s own moves into music television). The new deal – reportedly worth £20 million – will probably be viewed as a victory by both sides. Sky have cut there costs by 20%, but for MTV it could have been a lot worse.

MERCHANDISE BOOTLEGGERS
Country singer Kenny Chesney's legal attempts to secure a nationwide ban on merchandise bootleggers outside his gigs (which presumably would have given the police the right to move said bootleggers on) has been rejected by US district judge Leon Jordan in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Judge Jordan said Chesney's failure to show the court an ‘official’ T-shirt as evidence was the key point in his refusal to grant the merchandise ban – the case was based on the allegation that bootleggers confused fans into thinking they were buying licensed merchandise. Jordan told the court” "This omission makes it impossible for the court to perform a complete comparison of the goods to determine the likelihood of confusion caused by the bootleg merchandise.”

ROAD TO SOMEWHERE
Universal imprint Lost Highway has announced the line up for its up coming Lost & Found - Vol I' compilation, a collection of rarities, B-sides and unreleased music from across the label’s roster. Among those included are:
Johnny Cash - Wichita Lineman
Ryan Adams - Rosalie Come and Go
Bright Eyes - Trees Get Wheeled Away
The Jayhawks - Falling Star
Whiskeytown - Choked Up

LIFE AFTER ONE TRUE VOICE
Matt Johnson of the now defunct Popstars creation One True Voice has re-signed with Jive – the label who were behind the failed boyband. On the OTV website a statement reads: "Matt has signed to Jive and is to start on a solo project and is hoping to release a single in the near future." Presumably he won’t be turning to Pete Waterman for production help.

ALBARN SOLO ALBUM
According to the NME, Damon Albarn recorded a solo album whilst on tour with Blur in the US last month. If and when it gets released now depends on his prior commitments to Blur.

Damon: "I recorded it all on a four-track in America in hotel rooms - I'm really pleased with it. It sounds very American and I don't know why. I don't quite know how I'll put it out yet. I don't even know if I'll even be allowed to, so I'll have to wait and see. It's the lowest-fi record ever...it's not a commercial record."

REVIEW: Busted- Sleeping With The Light On (Universal Records)
Mattie, Charlie and James(ie) slow things down a notch with this rather sloppy follow up to ‘You Said No’. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls… presenting you with the very first song that Matt and James ever wrote together, and not a bad effort it is either. Less bouncy, tongue in cheek fun, and more serious boyband ballad than the previous 3 top 3 hit singles; but still a catchy little number that won’t disappoint all you pop fans. MY

MARLON BRANDO IS LOVE’S GRANDAD
According to reports in GQ magazine Marlon Brando is Courtney Love’s grandfather. The magazine reports that Love learned about her famous grandparent after her mother Linda Carroll took a DNA test. Love says: "I am incredibly shocked by this news. I have heard Mr. Brando has more than 30 children, so I can't imagine how many cousins I have."

Apparently Linda's mother, novelist Paula Fox, met Brando in the 40s, when the two enjoyed a romantic fling. Brando acknowledges 11 children as his own, although he’s thought to have many more.

DROWNED IN SOUND BACK IN PRINT

CRAIG DAVID LOVES PORN SHOCKER
Everyone assumes that famous pop stars never have to watch porn or go to prostitutes (apart from members of Motley Crue) but Craig David has admitted that he likes to surf adult movie channels when he's alone in his hotel room; making us mere mortals feel better about doing it.

David said: "I might have a look to see what's on offer, and that varies, depending on where you are. Guys are driven by testosterone and - forgive the pun - it can get them into some pretty sticky situations. So if you're not with a girl and you want to chill, I think it's ok to get involved with a little late-night entertainment.”
